CAMP (Y/N?): N MY ACTIVITIES: umm... er... well... NOTES: highest waterfall in Ga, lovely picnic/play areas, start of AT Approach Trail I'm ashamed to claim this as one of my state park visits in my quest to visit all the 48 Georgia State Parks within one year. But I'm going to. You see, well, um, ..... I just drove through for about 5 minutes to get to a Jeep Trail on the other side of the park with my lifelong BFF Leah and her Jeep 'Merlo'. Technically, I did visit Amicalola Falls State Park. I don't feel too bad about not exploring as I have spent my lifetime exploring Amicalola Falls SP - playground when I was a kid and then taking my kids, family reunions in the mid-1980s, hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT) Approach Trail daily while my kid was in half-day pre-K, the Len Foote Hike Inn... heck, I even got MARRIED at Amicalola Falls State Park!! (I'll go back before April 2020! I promise! LOL For now, know that this is one not to miss for anyone and I'm excited to explore it again as they have new activities like archery and zipline) *EDIT: I never went back within the April'19-April'20 timeframe.

CAMP (Y/N?): N MY ACTIVITIES: Picnic NOTES: easy trails, lake camping available, Lake Allatoona access/enjoyment Here is a 'visit' that I'll claim for technicality but will make efforts to revisit for further depth. Red Top State Park is one I spent many days hiking the easy trails during 2000-2004.
This day was in celebration of my birthday! Lovely day with picnic and hammock time by the lake. The ducks were very persistent in investigating us. CAMP (Y/N?): Y (2 nights, car camp) MY ACTIVITIES: Kayak, Hike NOTES: quiet & friendly, lovely quiet lake, pristine campsites This sweet little state park is certainly one I enjoy. I went for the first time in Fall 2018 with my Aunt JoAnn and Uncle Larry. I threw up the biggest, gaudiest tent in their "front yard" of their RV (where they have ALL the camping necessities and luxuries including blooming potted plants brought from home). Camping with them almost guarantees amazing home cooked style meals and a roaring campfire at night.
This time around, I had made springtime reservations earlier in 2019 after a trip to the Okefenokee Swamp in south GA, where I had gotten the 'want-to-canoe-bug'. I recalled the calm waters of Lake Burton, a perfect place to start learning with my 12 year old. We rented a tandem (2person) sit on top kayak and explored the lake early-morning Sunday. |
